Food choice is defined as providing the opportunity for an individual to select the food he or she wants to consume while food variety is defined as providing an individual with foods that differ on at least one sensory characteristic. Literature shows that providing food choice or providing food variety may increase meal enjoyment and food intake. Autonomy-Supportive and Controlling Styles of Teaching

Autonomy-supportive and controlling styles of teaching are usually considered to be the opposite ends of a single continuum. An alternative view, however, is that individuals can perceive both styles simultaneously, which suggests that they are different constructs ( Bartholomew, Ntoumanis, Ryan, Bosch, & Thøgersen-Ntoumani, 2011 ). Using cluster analysis, Study 1 (N = 160) confirmed that both teaching styles were perceived by students. Relationships between intrinsic motivation, physical self-concept and satisfaction with life: a longitudinal study.

Abstract In this study, we examined the relationships between intrinsic motivation, physical self-concept, and satisfaction with life using cross-lagged panel models analysed via structural equation models. The sample consisted of 293 participants (148 men, 145 women) aged 18–70 years who performed diverse types of physical exercise. Three alternative models were tested. The main theme in this chapter centres on the conceptual difference between psychological processes and the underlying mechanisms that propel these processes. The chapter starts with a brief historical overview and recognises the existence of the one single mechanism that throughout the past has repeatedly tended to rise to the surface, admittedly in different forms. Goal Setting and Monetary Incentives: When Large Stakes Are Not Enough

The aim of this paper is to test the effectiveness of wage-irrelevant goal setting policies in a laboratory environment. In our design, managers can assign a goal to their workers by setting a certain level of performance on the work task. We establish our theoretical conjectures by developing a model in which assigned goals act as reference points to workers’ intrinsic motivation. Consistent with our model, we find that managers set goals which are challenging but attainable for an average-ability worker. Impacts of Emotional Intelligence and Leadership on Motivation in the German Hotel Industry

This paper aims to clarify the role of leadership and emotional intelligence in the motivational process of employees in the hotel industry. A review of relevant literature is done before a tentative model is presented to experts from the fields of leadership, emotional intelligence and the hotel industry to get their view on the constructed relations. After having been approved by the experts, the model has been tested with structuring equation modelling (SEM) based on a quantitative research among employees and leaders of the hotel industry in Germany. The positive relation among leadership and motivation as well as the moderating effect of emotional intelligence could be substantiated.

Perceived Parental and Peer Support in Relation to Canadian, Cuban, and Spanish Adolescents’ Valuing of Academics and Intrinsic Academic Motivation

The aim of this study was to explore possible parent and peer influences on adolescents’ valuing of academics and intrinsic academic motivation in cultures varying in traditional emphasis on the family unit (Cuba, Canada, and Spain). Perceived parent and peer support, parents’ expectations, and valuing of academics significantly predicted adolescents’ valuing of education and motivation. Spanish adolescents were less motivated than members of the other ethnic groups. ABSTRACTThis article makes a contribution to the economics literature by inducing proper self-selection into contracts based on workers’ motivation.
